God is at work in your life
In John chapter 5 we encounter an interesting man. He had been an invalid for 38 years. For much of that time, he was surrounded by people who were much like him. There were those who were blind, deaf, lame, paralyzed. They all had one thing in common: They were hopeless without a divine miracle from God.
On a Saturday, Jesus walks into this environment. He sovereignly selects this particular man and He asks a bizarre question. “Do you want to be healed?” Of course the man wants to be healed! You would too.
As the story unfolds, we’ll see that the man wasn’t really interested in spiritual healing. His idea of healing was limited only the physical. But, Jesus heals him anyway and disappears into the crowd.
Incredibly, instead of marveling at the miracle, the Pharisees rebuke this poor man for carrying his bed on the Sabbath. He quickly excuses himself for his rule-breaking ways by declaring that the one who healed him told him to do it. Of course, he has no idea who that person is.
Later in the day, Jesus finds the man and checks on him. Astonishingly, the man runs to the Pharisees and rats Jesus out at the healer. After a Brief confrontation with the leaders over the rules of the Sabbath, Jesus delivers that glorious line, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”
Friends, there is never a moment when God is not at work in your life. He never sleeps. He never slumbers. He never gets bored and wanders away. He was at work in this man’s life, even though he was far more concerned with being accepted by the Pharisees than loving Jesus.
At one point or another, we were all there. We were dead in trespasses and sins. But Jesus found us and performed a miraculous work in our hearts. Since that moment, He has continued to be at work in your life. Occasionally, it’s difficult to perceive. Sometimes we can’t see it at all. But never doubt that the God who found you and saved you, loves you and is at work in every situation.
I’m not sure what you’re going through today, but let me encourage you, look for God working in that situation. Here’s there. He always is. Find Him and trust Him to work it out for your own good.
